Chapter III

GuideHeirlooms

Heirlooms

Gear carried by two members of your family becomes a named heirloom that stays with the family when you die.

How gear becomes an heirloom

  • Any weapon, tool or piece of armor remembers who carried it (held in your hand or worn). Hover over it to see "Carried by …".
  • When a second family member carries it (usually your heir, after picking it back up), it becomes an heirloom: it gets a name such as Oathkeeper, starts to glow and lists every bearer.
  • Heirlooms stay in your inventory when you die, so your heir starts with them. Everything else drops as usual.
  • Each new bearer raises its rank, up to rank 3: weapons get +1 attack damage per rank, tools +2 mining efficiency per rank, armor +0.5 armor toughness per rank.
  • An heirloom belongs to the whole house: any member can carry it and power it up.
  • If an heirloom is destroyed (burned, despawned or lost in the void), it isn't gone: see The Stolen Heirloom below.

The Oathblade

The Oathblade is a special heirloom from the Oath of the Sword. Crafting an iron sword in Act I swears the oath upon it, and it is an heirloom from that moment on.

The Stolen Heirloom

If an heirloom is destroyed, rumours soon say that thieves took it. You get a map to a Pillager Outpost, where an Heirloom Thief carries it. Defeat the thief to get your heirloom back, a little stronger than before (+4 renown).
