GuideDuties & renown
Duties & renown
Every death leaves the heir up to three duties, and fulfilling duties earns your house renown, which unlocks the next acts of the oath.
Duties
| Duty | What to do | Reward |
|---|---|---|
| Blood debt | If a mob killed your ancestor, slay 5 of that kind: 2 if it's a tough mob such as a Hoglin, and 1 if it's a strong or rare one such as a Warden, an Elder Guardian or an Evoker. If a player did, defeat that player. | A new trait for your character (or 8 levels) |
| Resting place | Visit the spot where your ancestor died. Their dropped items are there too. | 3 levels |
| Unfinished business | A task based on how your ancestor lived, such as mining iron ore for the Delver or walking 3 km for the Wanderer. | An item, such as diamonds or ender pearls, plus levels |
- Blood debts pass down: an unpaid debt stays with the house when the next family member dies, and the house loses renown for it. A house carries at most 3 debts; when a newer one pushes out the oldest, that debt is forgotten.
- Other duties end with the character who held them.
- Track progress above your hotbar and on the Chronicle's Duties pages. Finished duties stay listed, crossed out, until the next heir takes over.
Renown
Renown is your house's standing. It is never spent: the oath and the steward's vault only check how much your house has.
